Clever Neyra is a coffee producer at Alto Ihuamaca near the San Ignacio conservation area (1,550 masl), managing a small 1.5 ha farm planted to Bourbon and Geisha. He inherited the land from his father, who ran it for 22 years, then rested the soils for five years before planting in 2020—1,700 Geisha and 4,000 Bourbon. With young trees still increasing yields, he works the farm with help from cousins. After depulping, cherries ferment for 24–36 hours and are then dried for about 10–12 days. Clever works with Falcon Coffees Peru (FCP), a company established in 2019 to buy parchment directly at the farm gate, offering quality-differentiated premiums and full financial traceability. In 2022, FCP added cooperative exports to provide reliable access to third-party certified coffees. The company now operates two northern warehouses—Jaén and Moyobamba—with a 20+ person team sourcing and exporting alongside 500+ farmers and eight cooperatives, while their sustainability team runs farmer training and productivity work. For specialty sourcing, they identify interested farmers, capture digital baseline surveys via a Copera-built app, deliver workshops, and provide ongoing agronomy support; they commit to buy and pay premiums over the local price according to delivered cup quality. Their multi-year projects include Falcon Specialty Plus (with responsAbility), which has delivered an average +1.32 score gain with a peak of 88 and 107 producers enrolled, and a Soil Health Initiative targeting 600 farmers to improve soils, reduce chemical use, achieve GCP-equivalent certification, and generate farm-level carbon data.
